A deadly shooting in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges district has left three people dead, including a police officer, a civilian, and the suspected gunman, following a major emergency response that placed parts of the city under a shelter-in-place order. Authorities also confirmed that a second police officer was seriously injured during the incident and is receiving medical care.

The shooting unfolded around midday on June 22 after police responded to reports of an armed individual near the Décarie Boulevard area. Shortly after arriving, responding officers came under gunfire, triggering an active shooter response and a large-scale police operation. Residents in the surrounding neighborhood were instructed to remain indoors while officers worked to secure the area and locate the suspect.

Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher described the incident as a tragedy, confirming that the suspect was ultimately killed during the confrontation and that investigators believe he acted alone. The weapon believed to have been used in the attack was recovered at the scene, though authorities have not yet released information regarding a possible motive.

The loss of the officer marks a particularly significant moment for Montreal police, as it is the first line-of-duty officer death in the city in more than two decades. Leaders across Quebec and Canada have extended condolences to the victims’ families and recognized the efforts of first responders who responded to the crisis.

Investigators remain focused on determining what led to the shooting and are continuing to gather evidence. Police have since lifted the shelter-in-place order and stated that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
